Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee is calculated on the total order amount — the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays, plus gift wrapping if you charge for it. The payment processing fee is also charged on the full order total.
Example: you sell a $25 item and charge $5 for shipping. The transaction fee is 6.5% of $30 ($1.95), not 6.5% of $25 ($1.63). Processing is 3% + $0.25 of $30 ($1.15). Total fees on that order: $0.20 listing + $1.95 + $1.15 = $3.30, or 11% of revenue.
This is why shipping should never be treated as a pure pass-through cost — Etsy's fees apply to it, so the profit math has to include it.
Offsite Ads are Etsy's advertising for your listings across Google, Facebook, Instagram, and partner sites. You only pay a fee when a buyer clicks an ad and then makes a purchase from your shop within 30 days — there's no charge just for having your listings included.
Can you avoid it? Shops that have always been under $10,000 can opt out. Once you cross the $10,000 threshold, you must stay enrolled at the 12% rate for the life of the shop. Digital downloads (PDFs, planners, SVGs, templates) use the same core fee structure as physical products: the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee, and payment processing (3% + $0.25 in the US). The main difference is that there's usually no shipping charge, so the fee base is just the item price.
On a $15 digital product, fees are roughly: $0.20 listing + $0.98 transaction + $0.70 processing = about $1.88 (12.5%). On a $5 digital product the fixed fees make it worse — about $1.10 (22%) — which is why many sellers bundle small files into a higher-priced product.
